Company Description

COFRUVEISA is a Guatemalan company formerly known as Cofruve. Cofruve was founded in 1990 and later became COFRUVEISA in 2001. COFRUVEISA is an acronym for COmercializadora de FRUtas y VEgetales Internacional, Sociedad Anónima. COFRUVEISA´s primary activity is in the importation, exportation, marketing, and distribution of fruits and vegetables all over Central America. After years of successful growth, COFRUVEISA has reached a position where it minimizes its risks by diversifying the agricultural products it imports and distribrutes locally. Some notable examples are the following: garlic from China; onion, avocados, and mandarins from Mexico; and apples, grapes, and pears from the United States. In 2007, it began importing and marketing yucca from Costa Rica, an item that has been Cofruveisall-accepted by the Guatemalan market. Of these imported products, we export only a small portion of our imported products to various countries in Central America. Actually, we locally produce and export two seasonal products: jocote grown in Jalpatagua, Jutiapa and sweet corn produced in Asuncion Mita, Jutiapa. Additionally, we export and market white onion, yellow onion, bananas, plantanes, and lemons to other Central American countries. The most noteworthy example of an item we import into Guatemala and export all over Central America is the Mexican avocado of the renowned Hass variety. Actually, COFRUVEISA controls 80% of the market share in imported Hass avocados. COFRUVEISA has successfully marketed and sold the Hass avocado to nearly every country in Central America for over ten years now. Our domestic clients are notable as well. Our most important clients consist of the following: the major supermarket chains such as Paiz, Hiper Paiz (now owned by Wal-Mart), supermercados La Torre, Econosuper, and Price Smart among others; over 77 restaurants in the city, the street markets in Cenma Zone 12 and the terminal in Zone 4, as well as over 30 wholesale distributors.
