Company Description

History During the second part of the 20th century the border regions of LoWaldland *****r Austria, especially the Waldviertel, have had many economic disadvantages. The school for agriculture in Edelhof, near Zwettl searched for possibilities to compensate these disadvantages, and so they started a project to revive the cultivation of grey-poppy an herbs in 1980ies. Thanks to this initiative step by step a diversification in agriculture took place. After a successful development in planting and harvesting methods and a growing demand, in 1984 the Association for the Promotion of Special Crops was founded by around 70 farmers in 1984. Three years later the Association for the Promotion of Alternative Animal Agriculture was set up. In 2003 these two associations were fused to the association "Waldviertler Sonderkulturenverein", which has now about 800 members. To enforce the promotion of vegetable and animal products, the two associations founded the "Waldland Vermarktungs GesmbH" in 1989. An old manor house was bought by the associations. Step by step the manor house was rehabilitated and enlarged. Since that time the customers can buy Waldland products at the Waldlandhof and at a shop in the city of Vienna. Through the gained experiences in production and processing special crops the pharmaceutical industry got attentive to Waldland. Since 1997 Waldland produces and pre-processes medicinal plants, which are necessary for the production of medicine. A further step towards refining products was the creation of the kitchen and opening of the new designed shop at the Waldlandhof. In the following years a participation in new companies took place. The Öl- and Bioenergie Kautzen and the Waldviertler Flachshaus GesmbH were shared. In 2001 the swingle plant in Rastenfeld was bought. The recent scope of business is the adaptation of Diesel motors to run with pure plant oil - Waldland VWP.
