Birgi Sanayi A.S. is the largest manufacturer and exporter of emptypharmaceutical ampoules and vials in Turkey. Birgi has been thepioneer of modern technology and production methods since itsfounding as a family enterprise in 1963. Situated in the outskirtsof the Asian part of Istanbul, it presently produces some350.000.000 ampoules/year and 20.000.000 vials/year; of which35-40% are exported to various countries extending from Germany andSwitzerland in the BirgiMefar Groust to Pakistan in the East. The company pridesitself on the state-of-the-art technology that it uses, such asfully automated Moderne Mecanique production lines equipped withstem regulation units and more recently, optical inspectioncameras. The company also acquired EN ISO 9001 certification byBureau Veritas International in 1996 and acquired EN ISO 9001:2000certification by Bureu Veritas International in 2002. Birgi SanayiA.S. founded Mefar Ilac Sanayii A.S. in 1986 as a joint venturewith Hameln Pharmaceuticals of Germany, for toll manufacturing ofsmall volume parenteral in ampoules and vials. Mefar has aproduction volume of approx 265.000.000 units/year and has startedextending its activities to the EU-countries after it was awardedGMP-certification by the German Health Authorities in 1997.Additionally, Mefar has been GMP-certified by MHRA in 2003 toproduce for the UK market. The company also acquired EN ISO9001-2000 certification by BVQI in 2003.
