Dian Mandala stingray leather is processed from rays caught off coast of Java. The skin has a marvelous appearance and sturdy durability because the microscopic fibres of the stingray leather are woven together, unlike ordinary cow hide, which has parallel fibres. Until now, attempts at tanning stingray leather failed to consider the fibre structure of marine leather, and the result was a stiff, fragile product. Dian Mandala has been tanned using a newly developed process that work with the non parallel structure of the skin fibres, to yield a strong, soft skin of exquisite texture and beauty.
Unlike most exotic leather, ours is made from a species of stingray that is neither endangered nor threatened. We use the Cawtail ray (Trygon sephen) and the Spotted stingray (Trygon kuhlii) which are caught by traditional fisherman, and previously discarded. Dian Mandala is helping develop coastal communities by creating markets for their products.

Your accessories made from Dian Mandala stingray leather will offer a much longer life than you may have come to expect from ordinary leather products. You need not worry about moisture damage to the marine leather portion of your accessory, and no special cleaning is required. Rather than using volatile solvents to clean your leather, simply buff occasionally with a damp cotton cloth to maintain its natural radiance.
Marine leather of this quality requires lengthy hand-crafting to impress the raw skin with the proper tanning fluids. But the effort and expense is worthwhile: Those interwoven fibres are what give your Dian Mandala stingray leather over twice the strength of cow hide.
