Company Description

Panorama of Fruit production in Viet Nam The area under fruit tree cultivation has increased rapidly in recent years. In 2005, the area totaled at 766, 900 hectares, an 8.5% increase on annual basis since 1999. 2005¢¯¿½¯¿½s fruit production reached 6.5 million metric tons; of which, 1.4 million tons was made up by bananas. The Mekong river delta has had the largest fruit tree area of 262.100 hectares, equivalent to 35.1% of the total area, and the biggest output of 2.93 million metric tons of fruits, making up 46.1% of the total output. Thanks to a diversified ecology Viet Nam has more than 30 kinds of fruit trees, belonging to 3 groups as follows: - Tropical fruit trees: banana, pineapple, mango, and so on. - Semi-tropical fruit trees: orange, mandarin, litchi, longan, and so on. - Temperate fruit trees: plum, pearl, and so on. Litchi, longan, and rambutan are the most developed, making up 26% of the total fruit tree area; banana alone makes up about 19%. Over the country, concentrated fruit tree areas (CFTAs) have shaped, yielding higher and higher. They are as follows: +Thieu Litchi: the largest area of 35, 100 hectares is located in Bac Giang, mainly in the 3 districts: Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, and Lang Giang, with annual output of about 120, 100 metric tons. The second largest of 14, 000 hectares is located in Hai Duong, mainly in the 2 districts: Thanh Ha and Chi Linh, with annual output of about 36, 400 metric tons. + King Orange: the largest area of 28, 700 hectares is located in the Mekong river delta, with annual output of more than 200, 000 metric tons. In 2005, Vinh Long¢¯¿½¯¿½s output was about 47, 000 metric tons, Ben Tre¢¯¿½¯¿½s 45, 000 metric tons, and Tien Giang¢¯¿½¯¿½s 42, 000 metric tons. In the North, King orange was grown at Ha Giang, a mountain province; hoNew City Land Corp.ver, the output was near 20, 000 metric tons. + Rambutan: this fruit is grown mainly in Eastern provinces of the South, on an area of 14, 200 hectares (making up 40% of the total) and with an output of about 100, 000 metric tons (making up 61.54% of the total). The largest area of 11, 400 hectares is located in Dong Nai province, and the second largest of 4, 200 hectares is located in Ben Tre province. + Green Dragon: this fruit is grown mainly in Binh Thuan province, on an area of 5, 000 hectares (making up 70% of the total) and with an output of about 90, 000 metric tons (making up 78.6% of the total). About 2, 000 hectares is located in Tien Giang province. Blue Dragon export revenue is considered the biggest of all. + Pomelo: There are several varieties of pomelo regionally famous for their taste, and each of them is named after the locality where it is grown (Buoi Bien Hoa, Buoi Phuc Trach, Buoi Thuan Hai, for example). However, only Nam Roi pomelo is truly goods orientated. It total area is 9, 200 hectares, mainly in 2 provinces including Vinh Long and Hau Giang. In Vinh Long province, the area is of 4, 500 hectares (making up 48.6% of the total) and the output is of about 31, 300 metric tons (making up 54.3% of the total). Binh Minh district of Vinh Long has about 3, 400 hectares and attains about 30, 000 metric tons. Hau Giang province ranks after Vinh Long, with an area of 1, 300 hectares. + Mango: this fruit is also grown on large scale. There is a variety of mango, but Hoa Loc ¢¯¿½¯¿½Cat¢¯¿½¯¿½ mango has the best quality. It is grown chiefly alongside the Tien river, on an area of 4, 400 hectares and with annual output of 22, 600 metric tons. The largest area of 1, 600 hectares is located in Tien Giang province, with annual output of 10, 100 metric tons. The second largest area of 873 hectares is located in Dong Thap province, with annual output of 4, 300 metric tons. + Mangosteen: this fruit is very delicious and nutritious. It is grown mainly in Mekong river delta provinces (about 4, 900 hectares and annual output of 4, 500 metric tons) and sparsely in Eastern provinces of the South. The largest area of 4, 200 hectares (about 76.8% of the total) is located in Ben Tre province. Although it is one of the best sellers, its expansion is however in difficulty as it is a perennial (only bear fruit after 5 ¢¯¿½¯¿½ 6 years), takes up a lot of space, and seems to only suit the alluvial soil. + Pineapple: this is one of 3 spearhead fruits which have been encouraged to develop in recent time. The 2 varieties are named Queen and Cayenne. The latter is high productivity, apt to can. Localities having largest areas of pineapple are Tien Giang with 3, 700 hectares, Kien Giang with 3, 300 hectares, Nghe An with 3, 100 hectares, Ninh Binh with 3, 000 hectares, and Quang Nam with 2, 700 hectares. Apart from the above mentioned fruits, there are several exportable fresh fruits like durian, star apple, longan, and so on. But their area and output as well are still unremarkable. For example, yellow pulp longan only covers about 200 hectares in Ba Ria ¢¯¿½¯¿½ Vung Tau.
