Neem cake has the property to control many soil insects viz, nematodes, wire worms, root grubs etc. Nitrogen content in itself is to the vicinity of 3.0 %. The most important property is to increase the use efficiency of nitrogenous fertilizers when used along with. It reduces the nitrification rate by curbing the activity of nitrifying bacteria like nitrosomonas and nitrobacter which ensures control release of nitrogen and continuous availability of nitrogen to the crop during critical stages of crop growth. It helps in reducing the loss of nitrogen in form of volatilization, leaching and run off.
Castor cake also has the property to control soil insects viz, termites besides providing nutrients to the plants.
Denicotinised tobacco dust contains some quantity of nicotine, which helps in controlling the soil insects. It also contains a growth promoting substance, solanesol which helps in better crop growth.
