Ceramics is the oldest plastic substance used by mankind. Discovered 25 thousand years ago, pieces of ceramicwork have been found all over the world, dating from before the beginning of recorded history. Up to this day no better substitute has been discovered, quite on the contrary this substance born out of clay, water, air and fire has been gaining ground in new field, such as medicine and technology. Hence mankind will not be able to forsake it in the future.
The factory was named cesiro ceramics, sighisoara, Romania on january, 1st, 1991 when it began functioning as an independent unit, no longer a section of the former glass and pottery factory of sighisoara. At that moment the technological equipment of the factory was out dated as during the years since it was set up, the only attempts at modernizing it had been made by innovation and self equipment, rather than by purchasing up to date technology.
Sc Cesiro Sa first investments were in purchasing new kilns, improving decorations and glazed products in order to make our ceramicware competitive and to improve its quality. In 1993, after acquiring two modern furnaces, our exports increased by 55% . Our investments continued in the following years totaling 8, 3 million USD, so that al sections of our factory have been equipped with modern technology, consequently, our exports have increased by 6. 4 as compared to previous period.
Founded in 1957 in sighisoara, the stoneware company has been continuing the ceramic tradition specific to the cultural and spiritual area of transylvania. The factory is one of the earliest potteries in Romania. Pieces of pottery discovered by archeologists in different parts of sighisoara prove that the art of shaping clay into ceramicwork dates back to the i millennium b. C.
In 1995 the company was privatized by the mebo method, so that at present it is owned by shared holders. Our good economic and financial results have allowed us to pay off our privatization debts off and, at the same time to pay an annual divident to our share-holders most of them employees of the company, which has proved to be in incentive to work harder.
In order to maintain the position the company has gained both on the domestic and on the international market, the management will continue its projects regarding the equipment of the factory with up to date technology such as introduction of the new technology used for pressing plates. Increased efforts will be made towards improving work condition and protection of environment so that cesiro should remain a profitable and viable enterprise.
