TA THAM Musical Instrument Workshop was founded in 1957 by TA THAM - a researcher and innovator of musical instruments. He was fondly named as King of Musical Instruments and King of Innovating Musical Instruments by traditional musicians, thanks to his outstanding talent in creating instruments.

In the Innovating Works on Traditional Musical Instruments contest organized by Vietnam Institute of Music Research in 1987, all of his 5 participating works won 5 prestigious awards out of 10 awards given by the Ministry of Culture and Information (3 A awards for: Lotus Instrument, Wooden blocks set and Stringed gongs etc).

Up to now, with endless efforts in researching methods of creating instruments during more than half of a century along with succeeding generations, many instruments made by T.A T.H.A.M Musical Instrument Workshop have been regarded as the standard of sound quality and aestheticism of Vietnam traditional instruments by Vietnamese and foreign artists.
